‘We Made It!’ is the latest album by UK-based Johnny & the Raindrops. It's their first long player since 2017.

Johnny says “I’m really proud of these songs. This album has been a labour of love. I hope you enjoy it!"

‘We Made It!’ is a collection of upbeat optimistic songs with big choruses and super-catchy melodies. Each song is crafted with love to put a smile on your face, hope in your heart and a song in your step.

The song titles sum up the uplifting tone: ‘A song full of hope’, ‘I follow my dreams’, ‘You have a voice’ and ‘Thank You’.

The lyrics radiate a sense of joy and confidence that spills over into the music:

‘Open your eyes and see the colours’ – ‘Say “Hello!”’
‘Be yourself. Be proud. Sing your song. Sing it loud!’ – ‘Be yourself’
‘Stay awake. Keep dreaming. Hope is the fuel that keeps the fire burning’ – ‘A song full of hope’

The album also touches on themes not often covered in songs for children.

‘Bat with a broken wing’ is about disability and friendship – ‘In my dreams, my wings are wide’.

‘I don’t want to smile today’ is about feeling sad, depressed even. It's Ok to feel like that. There's hope - ‘High above the clouds the sun is still shining’ - and resilience.

Johnny is keen to expand the emotional range of children’s music where perma-smiles and bright colours are often the norm. “It’s important for children to recognize when they feel down. Putting words to those feelings when they come along can really help children understand their emotions”.

Like the other Johnny & the Raindrops albums, ‘We Made It!’ covers a wide range of genres - pop, indie, soul, rockabilly and more - a whole load of big choruses to get stuck in your ears.

The eleven songs were performed and recorded by Johnny at home during the lockdowns of 2021-2022. The other musicians send their various keyboard and guitar parts to Johnny via the magic of the internet. Bass player Darren used a long lead to record his parts in Johnny’s garden!

The album title has more than one meaning – we created it, we made it through the pandemic, we got to the finish line – take your pick.
